Creux Salon Brochure

Some projects are just more fun than others. Sometimes you get to exercize all of your creative powers Just Godand in the end the product speaks perfectly to the target audience while also being loads of fun to create. Creux Salon and Spa needed a brochure that listed its prices but one that did it in a manner that was consistent with the shop's image. Creux is a high-end salon in Cherry Creek of Denver. The shop has an elegant and rich theme with lots of deep colors and bronze and teal highlights to it. The brochure needed to match these features.

Originally, I considered a piece that was four color process with one spot color (metallic Bronze) laid over top in certain spots. But printing costs were too high so I decided to create a piece as close to that look as possible while going through a digital press.

Adding an Aged Look

I wanted the piece to look as if it had been part of the shop for a while. The goal was to create something that looked as if it had been part of a wall for years and had a somewhat of a worn and tattered look to it. I created a background that had an aged, marbled look with teal highlights in the cracks and crevices. To accomplish this I used Photoshop to adjust the light values. Also, I wanted the teal panels to look worn and part of the wall. To accomplish this I created some wear and tear along the edges and gave them a slight transparency. I also created "dirty" spots over the teal areas to enhance the aged look.

The headers needed to be raised off the wall and I needed to add some depth to them. To achieve this I used a kockout technique to create the lettering and then applied some embossing and beveling.

The end result is a dynamic and fun piece that really pops when printed. Unfortunately, when saved for the web it's just impossible to replicate the vibrant colors in the printed piece.
